Actor Jason Momoa is set to star as the iconic DC Comics character Lobo in the new film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, marking his return to the DC universe. Momoa has long been a fan of the character and has expressed interest in playing Lobo for years.

The film, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, is based on the DC Comics run by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Production is set to begin on January 13, 2024, with a release date of June 26, 2026. Joining Momoa in the cast is Milly Alcock, playing the lead role of Supergirl, in a film that is part of the DC Universe reboot led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Momoa, known for his roles in the DC Extended Universe, including Aquaman and Zack Snyder's Justice League, is eager to take on the antihero Lobo, calling it his "favorite role" to date.

Lobo, a bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, is one of the most recognizable characters in the DC Universe. In a statement expressing his excitement to play the character, Momoa shared a quote from a 2019 interview where he discussed his lifelong fandom of the character. "I've been the biggest fan of Lobo since I was a kid... and I love the idea of playing Lobo, I think it's the perfect role for me," Momoa said.

While plot details are limited, the film is expected to have a harder edge than previous iterations of Lobo. As teased by Gunn, the film promises to be "much more hardcore" than its predecessors. Fans of the character can expect a fresh and exciting take on this iconic DC character, with Momoa's take on Lobo sure to captivate audiences.

With Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow being part of the larger DC Universe reboot, this project marks a significant shift for the studio, signaling a more modern take on the characters and storytelling. As production begins in January, fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting the release of this film and the new take on Lobo that Momoa will bring to life.
