Aviation Tragedy Claims Lives of Pakistani Pilot, Indian Doctor in UAE

Updated :

A devastating aviation incident has shaken the aviation community in the UAE, as a light aircraft operated by Jazirah Aviation Club crashed into the sea off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah city, resulting in the deaths of a Pakistani female pilot and an Indian passenger, Dr. Sulaymaan Al Majid.

The tragic event unfolded on December 26, shortly after takeoff, when the aircraft crashed into the sea near the Cove Rotana Hotel. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has confirmed the incident and launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the crash. Dr. Al Majid, a 26-year-old clinical fellow at the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, was flying in the plane for sightseeing purposes. Born and raised in the UAE, Dr. Al Majid was conducting a clinical fellowship in the UK and had contracted COVID-19 pay restoration for UK resident doctors. He was also a prominent advocate for fairness in the medical profession.

Dr. Al Majid was a leading figure in the British Medical Association's (BMA) efforts to secure fair pay for resident doctors in the UK. He worked tirelessly as an honorary secretary, organizing protests and picket lines to raise awareness about the issue. Additionally, he played a crucial role in guiding aspiring surgeons as the Teaching Lead at the North East Foundation Trainees Surgical Society. His family remembered him as a bright and ambitious individual who left an indelible mark on those around him.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, with Dr. Al Majid's family expressing their grief, stating, "We were looking forward to the New Year as a family, making plans to celebrate together. Instead, our lives have been shattered. Sulaymaan was the light of our lives, and we don’t know how to move forward without him." The GCAA has extended its condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks and sacrifices made by individuals in the aviation and medical professions. The love and dedication of Dr. Al Majid towards his work will continue to inspire and motivate others to strive for a more fair and equitable environment in the medical profession.
