Pilot, Doctor Killed in UAE Plane Crash
A plane crash off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, has claimed the lives of a Pakistani female pilot and a 26-year-old Indian doctor, Sulaymaan Al Majid, who was on a sightseeing tour in the region.
The light aircraft, operated by the Jazirah Aviation Club, crashed into the sea shortly after taking off from the Cove Rotana Hotel, where Majid had hired the plane for a recreational flight. According to reports, the pilot had made an emergency landing before the occupants were taken to the hospital, where Majid was pronounced dead at 4:30 pm. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Sulaymaan Al Majid, a 26-year-old clinical fellow at the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in the UK, was a passionate advocate for fairness in the medical profession. He served as the honorary secretary and co-chair of the Northern Resident Doctors Committee of the British Medical Association (BMA), playing a crucial role in securing fair pay for resident doctors. Majid also redefined the term "junior doctors" to "resident doctors," a move that reflected his ambition to improve working conditions for doctors. He was also a dedicated educator, serving as a Teaching Lead at the North East Foundation Trainees Surgical Society and guiding aspiring surgeons.
Majid's impact extended beyond the medical field. He was passionate about education and was building an online platform to help UAE students study abroad. His family was deeply touched by his tragic loss, with his father describing him as the "light of our lives." Majid's colleagues and peers remembered him as a bright and ambitious individual who made a positive impact in his community.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and the aviation authority has confirmed the incident. As the investigation proceeds, it remains to be seen what factors contributed to this tragic accident. In the meantime, the focus is on honoring the memory of those who lost their lives and celebrating the impact of Sulaymaan Al Majid's life on his community and profession.
