ICC Announces Nominees for Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year Award
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the nominees for the prestigious Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year award, a list that has some eyebrows raised due to the notable absence of Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, who played a pivotal role in India's T20 World Cup triumph.
Babar Azam, the world's top-ranked ODI batter, has made the cut, recognized for his excellent performances over the past year. The Pakistan star has chalked up 738 runs in 24 T20I matches at an impressive average of 33.54, highlighting his consistent form. One of his most notable knocks came against Ireland, where he scored 75 runs from 42 balls at an incredible strike rate of 178.57. Arshdeep Singh, India's ace left-arm pacer, has also been nominated for his impressive showings in 18 T20I matches, where he picked up 36 wickets at an average of 13.5. Notably, he had a string of successful cameos against New Zealand and the Indian Premier League, further cementing his reputation as a reliable performer in explosive cricket.
Rounding out the nominees is Sikandar Raza, the Zimbabwean all-rounder, who impressed with 573 runs in 24 matches at an average of 28.65, and picked up 24 wickets at an average of 22.25. His highest score was a commendable 133 not out. He played a vital role in guiding Zimbabwe to an unbeaten run in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup sub-regional Africa Qualifier.
