Fog Plunges Punjab into Darkness, Motorways Shut Down Due to Reduced Visibility

Updated :

A thick blanket of fog has enveloped the Punjab region, plunging the province into darkness and severely curtailing road travel. Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad has announced the closure of several motorways at various points, affecting thousands of travelers.

The sectors of Motorway M2 haven been shut down from Lahore to Kot Momin, while Motorway M3 remains closed from Lahore to Darkhana. Motorway M4 has also been closed from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem, with Sialkot Motorway M11 restricting entry. The restrictions have been put in place to ensure public safety due to the extremely low visibility on national highways across cities including Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad, and Bahawalnagar.

The authorities have advised travelers to prioritize day-time travel, use fog lights while driving, and avoid unnecessary trips. Motorway Police have also emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe distance between vehicles and avoiding overspeeding. Visibility has been severely impacted across multiple cities in the region, leading to the near-total disruption of daily life and daily routines. In addition to Punjab, several areas in other provinces including Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also reported similar weather conditions, severely affecting their daily life.

Reports indicate that widespread fog has affected various regions, including Islamkot, Nangarparkar, and Mushke Zarif. Multiple cities in Punjab, including Lahore, also experienced severe weather conditions, which came along with freezing winds and a drop in temperatures. Visibility has been limited to just a few meters in many areas, further exacerbating the travel challenges faced by residents.

The affected residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid making non-essential trips as much as possible. Motorway Police and other authorities continues efforts to ensure public safety, and motorists are reminded to be cautious and plan their travel accordingly, so that they can avoid facing any difficulties en route.
