Delhi Govt Declares 'Dry Day' on Maharana Pratap Jayanti; Chittagong Kings Return to BPL

Updated :

The Supreme Court sought a response from the Centre on a plea questioning the Delhi government's decision to declare April 12 as a "dry day" to commemorate Maharana Pratap Jayanti, while Chittagong Kings, a team that once symbolized the battleground spirit, returns to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after a decade-long hiatus, aiming to bring victory and glory to their fans.

On a different front, excitement is palpable as the Chittagong Kings franchise ready to kick-start their journey in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as they officially announced that they will be competing in the upcoming 2024-25 season after a decade-long absence. The BPL is a highly competitive professional Twenty20 tournament. The team's owner, Sameer Quader Chowdhury, expressed his enthusiasm about the comeback and outlined the team's strategy, goals, and challenges. Chowdhury stated that the team had always intended to participate in the BPL but was prevented from doing so during certain circumstances. He wishes to assemble a well-balanced team by placing experienced players alongside young talent. The team has already obtained the signing of notable players such as Shoriful Islam, Angelo Mathews, and Shamim Hossain, but Shakib Al Hasan's availability remains uncertain. Shakib, a highly influential all-rounder, could significantly boost their prospects.

Sameer Quader Chowdhury acknowledges that Shakib's unavailability might prompt a rework in the team structure, with discussions ongoing regarding potential replacements with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The Kings also emphasizes the importance of nurturing local talent. In this regard, the team plans to set up programs to identify and develop gifted young players from Chittagong. This initiative should encourage engagement from the community through social media campaigns and share a home, fostering enlightened participation by using grassroots outreach initiatives. The team aims to harness further potential resources for these youth initiatives, however remained tight-lipped about any collaborations till date.

Sameer Quader Chowdhury has expressed optimism for the future, acknowledging economic success could be realized, while financial concerns regarding revenue sharing may be addressed in the upcoming season. They are determined to leave a lasting impression on the league and claim the championship title. A key factor in the success of Chittagong Kings will be sameer Quader own presence as owner who successfully carried it through upsaba dynasty first and now Chittigong Saga.
