Lahore Receives Light to Moderate Rain, Relieving Smog and Brings Cooler Temperatures
Lahore experienced a welcome respite from the smog and heat as light to moderate rain lashed the city, causing a significant drop in temperature and improving air quality indices.
The rain, which was reported in various areas, including Abbott Road, Shimla Pahari, Lakshami Chowk, Empress Road, Cooper Road, Railway Station, and Mughalpura, brought a much-needed relief to the residents, who had been struggling with the hazardous air quality levels. The rain also affected other areas, such as Defence, Punjab Society, Shanghai Road, Kacha Jail Road, Kot Lakhpat, Ghazi Road, Shaukat Town, Walton, and Maulana Shaukat Ali Road.
The rain had a significant impact on the city's power supply, with over 280 feeders of LESCO tripping due to feeder trips and technical faults, resulting in power outages in several areas. However, authorities were quick to respond, and power restoration work began as soon as the rain stopped. The brief respite from the rain has not been enough to alleviate the city's air quality woes, with Lahore's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 249, posing severe health risks to vulnerable populations.
The weather is expected to remain cloudy throughout the day, with a westerly wave affecting the region, leading to cold and dry weather in most parts of the country. Overnight temperatures in the city dropped to 9°C, and temperatures could not rise above 15°C during the day. The city's residents are advised to take precautions and remain vigilant about the air quality, while authorities should continue to work towards addressing the worsening air quality to ensure public safety.
As the city moves towards winter, the inconvenience caused by the power outages and hazardous air quality levels should not be ignored. The authorities must take proactive measures to ensure a smoother transition into the colder months and provide relief to the citizens, who have been incessantly affected by the harsh weather conditions.
