Australia Holds Upper Hand in Fourth Test Against India

Updated :

Australia's Steve Smith dominated the first session, scoring 140 as Australia reached 474 in their first innings. Australia then took control after tea, bowing out India for 164/5 at the close of play.

India's batting lineup struggled against Australia's bowling attack, led by Pat Cummins, who bowled KL Rahul just before tea. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli formed a partnership, but a mix-up saw Jaiswal run out for 82. India still trails by 310 runs, with Australia finishing the day at 311/6.

Australia's top order dominated the Indian bowlers in the morning session, with Smith forming a 112-run partnership with captain Pat Cummins. The Indian bowlers regrouped after lunch, rotating the pacers and bowling fuller and longer lengths to try and induce edges. Bumrah stood out, taking two wickets, but India's middle order still struggled to find form.

The match is evenly poised going into day three, with India facing a tough task to stage a comeback against Australia's strong bowling lineup. The key to India's recovery will be the partnership between Kohli and Jaiswal, who will need to apply themselves to reduce the deficit and plot a way to victory.
