Australia Dominates Day One of Fourth Test Against India

Updated :

Australia took control of the fourth Test against India on day one at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, reaching 311-6 at stumps. The hosts' top four batsmen, including debutant Sam Konstas, scored 50 or better, setting up a promising position for the remainder of the match.

Sam Konstas, making his first Test appearance, made a memorable debut with 60 off 65 balls. The 19-year-old's aggressive batting style was on full display, as he hit 9 fours and a six, including an impressive 18 runs off one over from Jasprit Bumrah. Konstas' highlight-reel moment came when he reversed-swept Bumrah for two fours and a six, potentially sparking an exchange with the Indian captain, Virat Kohli, which earned a warning.

Marnus Labuschagne (72) and Usman Khawaja (57) also contributed significantly to Australia's strong start, while Steve Smith was not out on 68. Although India's bowlers managed to take four wickets in the final session, including Travis Head for a duck, the hosts' top order proved too resilient, leaving the visitors with a lot to think about as the Test resumes.

As the series stands 1-1, Australia will look to build on their promising start and take the match, and ultimately the series, won it. The momentum is now firmly in their favor, and it remains to be seen how India will respond to the challenge posed by the Australian top order.
