OGDCL Revives Oil Well in Sindh, Achieves Hydrocarbon Production

Updated :

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully resurrected an oil well in the Tando Allah Yar district of Sindh, following decades of being non-productive, and achieved hydrocarbon production from a new interval.

The well in question, Dars West-2, was initially completed in January 2024 after being completed in the C-Sand of the Lower Goru Formation. However, the well's production declined, leading to cessation of production on September 24, 2024, due to a decline in wellhead production. An assessment indicated that the C-Sand interval no longer held production potential, prompting the company to re-evaluate the well's production strategy.

After isolating the non-productive C-Sand interval, the Dars West-2 well was re-completed in the B-Sand of the Lower Goru Formation. This strategic move has led to a significant increase in hydrocarbon production, with the well now contributing 200 barrels per day of oil, 8 million standard cubic feet per day of gas, and 37 metric tons per day of liquefied petroleum gas.

The produced gas is being processed at OGDCL's Kunnar Pasakhi Deep-Tando Allah Yar Plant and subsequently integrated into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network, thus supporting the national gas supply. This resurgence in production effectively boosts the country's hydrocarbon output, indicating the company's commitment to optimizing its assets and maximizing revenue.

The successful revival of the Dars West-2 well is a testament to OGDCL's diligent efforts in seeking opportunities to enhance its production and contribute to the country's energy requirements. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, such innovative strategies will remain crucial in sustaining and increasing the country's hydrocarbon output.
