Severe Cold Wave Hits Pakistan, Fog Anticipated
Pakistan is bracing for a cold wave, with widespread fog expected in several regions, particularly in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh. The Met department has forecasted dry and cold conditions across most areas, with the upper regions remaining partly cloudy and very cold.
Karachi had its coldest night of the month on December 21, with temperatures dipping to 9.2 degrees Celsius, while Jinnah Terminal recorded a minimum temperature of 8.5°C. The forecast suggests that the city's temperature is likely to range between 9-12°C over the next two days. Meanwhile, cold wave conditions are described as very cold over upper and central Sindh, with temperatures 2-4°C below normal.
The changing weather conditions are expected to bring light rain or snowfall to isolated areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and nearby hilly regions. Karachi is also anticipating strong winds from the northeast on December 24-25, with gusts potentially reaching 25-35 km/h, according to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain around 25°C, while nighttime lows may dip to 9-11°C. The cold snap is not limited to Karachi, as Quetta has already recorded -5°C, and other areas in Balochistan have seen temperatures below -4°C.
Pakistan's winter weather has brought significant changes, with snowfall starting in Murree and light showers predicted for Lahore. The evolving weather conditions underscore the country's diverse climate, emphasizing the need for residents and travelers to stay informed and adapt accordingly to the changing weather forecast.
