Karachi Chills: Cold Wave Grips City, Temperatures Drop to 9.2°C

Updated :

Karachi woke up to a bone-chilling Friday night, with the mercury plummeting to a minimum temperature of 9.2°C, marking the city's coldest night this month. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) attributes the sudden dip in temperature to northeast winds from Balochistan sweeping over the metropolis.

The Met office predicts a prolonged period of cold and dry weather conditions to prevail over the province for the next 24 hours, with a humidity level of 48% dominating the atmosphere. Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz confirmed that the wind would not result in any dust storm-like conditions, providing some respite to the residents. However, the prolonged spell of cold weather is expected to continue, keeping temperatures low for the coming days.

The Met department has declared that Karachi experienced its coldest night this month on the 22nd of December, with a minimum temperature of 9.2 degrees Celsius. The ongoing cold wave has also spread to other parts of Sindh, with night temperatures predicted to remain 2-4°C below normal in the upper and central regions of the province. A minimum temperature of 9-12°C has been forecast for the city over the next two days, affecting daily life and disrupting businesses across the region.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the biting cold, and the authorities have been requested to provide crucial assistance to the most vulnerable sections of the population, especially children, the elderly, and people living in slums and underprivileged areas. As the city shivers through the chilly spell, citizens are bracing themselves for a prolonged winter-like experience in the midst of a chilly December.
