China Takes to the Skies: GAC Group Unveils Flagship eVTOL

Updated :

In a significant move towards sustainable air transportation, Chinese state-owned automotive conglomerate GAC Group has launched its new eVTOL business, Govy, and revealed its flagship model, the AirJet. This revolutionary flying car boasts impressive features, including a range of 200 km, a top aerial speed of 250 km/h, and a recharge time of just 30 minutes.

The AirJet, which marks GAC's second foray into the eVTOL space, is designed for longer trips, with the goal of developing its eVTOLs to travel distances of up to 400 km on a single charge in the future. This ambitious project is part of GAC's plans to revolutionize urban and intercity mobility with sustainable air transportation solutions. The company aims to initiate airworthiness certification for its eVTOLs in 2025 and launch commercial operations in China.

GAC's Govy brand is a significant step in China's emerging flying car market, which is expected to greatly boost the country's low-altitude economy. China's low-altitude economy has already exceeded 500 billion yuan in 2023 and is projected to reach 2 trillion yuan by 2030, according to data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

GAC's innovative AirJet and its eVTOL technology have the potential to transform urban mobility and make sustainable transportation a reality. With its strategic foothold in the Chinese market and ambitious expansion plans, GOVY is set to be a major player in the global eVTOL market. The collaboration between EHang Holdings and Changan Automobile, announced recently, highlights the growing trend of partnerships in the flying car industry, indicating a promising future for this rapidly evolving sector.
