Iran's Khamenei Blames US & Israel for Syria's Assad Regime Ouster
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has sharply criticized the United States and Israel for their alleged role in the collapse of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime. In a strongly worded statement, Khamenei accused the US and its allies of plotting Assad's downfall, suggesting that an unnamed "neighbouring" country also had a significant role to play. The Iran supreme leader also emphasized that the "Axis of Resistance" will emerge stronger despite the regime's demise.
Khamenei's remarks come as the Syrian conflict has left a power vacuum in the region, with multiple foreign forces operating within Syria's borders. Amid this backdrop, he pointed out that the objectives of different invaders are to establish influence and control. "The US seeks to strengthen its position in the region, while Turkish forces have been operating in northern Syria," Khamenei stated. However, he insisted that "the US and its allies will ultimately be driven out by the Axis of Resistance," maintaining that only additional time is required.
Furthermore, Khamenei refuted speculation that the fall of the Assad regime would weaken Iran, stressing the country's continued strength and power. This comes after intelligence warnings given to the Syrian administration three months prior to the regime's downfall. The Iranian supreme leader suggested that the Syrian government ignored these warnings, allowing the country's situation to spiral further. The Syrian people, however, are still immersed in proposing responses to their complicated political scenario.
Khamenei's comments reflect Iran's stance on current events in the Middle East and marks another stark warning for foreign involvement in the region. While concerns over the global influence of the United States and Israel have been longstanding, his strong statements underline the complexity of diplomatic and strategic bonds between participating nations.
