China Unveils Final Variant of Advanced CH-7 Stealth Drone Ahead of Zhuhai Air Show

Updated :

China's state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) has unveiled the final variant of its highly-anticipated CH-7 stealth drone, a high-altitude and long-endurance unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), ahead of the Zhuhai Air Show. The CH-7 boasts advanced features, including a new cranked kite wing design, wing flaps, and a flat exhaust, making it a significant addition to China's dragon of stealth drone arsenal.

The CH-7, which measures 10 meters in length, has a wingspan of 26 meters, and a maximum take-off weight of 10,000 kilograms, is powered by a single turbofan engine with an internal payload weapons bay. Capable of reaching speeds of up to 926 kilometers per hour and with an endurance of up to 15 hours, the CH-7 is an accomplished piece of technology in its own right. Despite the exact specifications remaining under wraps, the unveiling of the CH-7 is a significant moment for China's push towards establishing itself as a major drone power.

The CH-7 is part of a broader effort by China to expand its inventory of long-range, low-observable drones for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and attack roles. China has been working to enhance and refine its stealth drone capabilities for years, and the unveiling of the CH-7 is a culmination of those efforts. This drone is also poised to join some of China's other cutting-edge unmanned aerial vehicles, including the Jiu Tian drone mothership, at the Zhuhai Air Show.

Similar attention at the show will also be drawn to the unveiling of China's 10-ton Jiu Tian drone mothership, developed by the government-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). The Jiu Tian boasts an Isomerism Hive Module, suggesting its capacity for launching and managing swarms of smaller drones, increasing its capabilities for ISR, electronic warfare, and even kamikaze drone operations. The People's Liberation Army is likely to be a key beneficiary of such capabilities.

The unveiling of the CH-7, coupled with the showcase of other advanced drones like the Jiu Tian, J-15T warplane, and the J-35A stealth fighter jet, reflects China's continued push to assert itself as a technological leader in drone manufacturing and operation. With its comprehensive capabilities, including the CH-7, China is solidifying its reputation as a rising power in the military aviation sector, with a footing that is certain to continue contributing significantly to its overall military capabilities in the years to come.
