Rajab 1446 AH Begins in Pakistan, Worldwide
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan has announced the sighting of the moon for the Islamic month of Rajab, marking the start of Rajab 1446 AH on January 2, 2025, as Muslims around the world prepare to observe Shab-e-Meraj.
Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad made the announcement following a zonal moon sighting committee session at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Islamabad. The observation of Shab-e-Meraj, commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's ascension to heaven, will be held on January 28, 2025, with Muslims worldwide participating in prayer, discourse, and festivities to seek Allah's mercy and blessings. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, responsible for determining the sighting of the crescent for the Islamic month, will meet on January 1, 2025, to coincide with the new year, presided over by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
In North America, the Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America also confirmed the sighting of the Crescent Moon of the Month of Rajab, 1446 A.H. on January 2nd, 2025. This marks the beginning of the new Hijri month for North America, as the committee determines the start of the Hijri months based on credible moon sightings and regional reports. Thursday, January 2nd, has been declared the first day of Rajab, 1446 A.H. for North America. Rajab holds significance in Islam, as it marks several notable events including birthdays and martyrdoms of prominent Imams and companions of the Prophet Muhammad.
