BJP MPs Hospitalized with Injuries, Rahul Gandhi Charged After Parliament Scuffle
New Delhi: Two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were injured in a scuffle with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi outside Parliament yesterday, with the latter facing multiple charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, including voluntarily causing grievous hurt and endangering life or personal safety.
The scuffle outside Parliament occurred during a protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments on Dr B.R. Ambedkar. The two groups faced off at the Makar Dwar of Parliament House, resulting in a melee and the injury to the BJP MPs. According to a doctor's statement, Sarangi and Rajput suffered head injuries and blood pressure-related issues, with Sarangi being an elderly cardiac patient and Rajput's blood pressure still high. They are under close observation and are expected to stay in hospital for the next two days.
Following the incident, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was charged for allegedly injuring the two BJP MPs, which he has denied, stating that he was protesting peacefully but was prevented from entering Parliament by BJP MPs carrying sticks. The case has led to widespread condemnation, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has banned protests at Parliament gates in a bid to prevent such incidents.
The BJP filed an FIR against Rahul Gandhi under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, which Gandhi has called an "attempt to silence the voice of opposition". On the other hand, the Congress filed a complaint against the BJP for allegedly preventing their MPs from entering Parliament. A BJP MP, S Phangnon Konyak, has also accused Gandhi of making her uncomfortable by invading her personal space during the protest.
The incident has highlighted the escalating tensions between the ruling BJP and opposition parties in Indian politics, and raises questions about the effectiveness of the Lok Sabha Speaker's decision to ban protests at Parliament gates in preventing such incidents from occurring in the future. As the case unfolds, it will be interesting to see how the parties and the government respond to these charges and allegations.
