Punjab Declares Winter School Holidays for Students

Updated :

In a bid to provide students a well-deserved break during the winter season, the state of Punjab has announced school closures from December 24 to 31. The directive, issued by the state education department, affects all government, private-aided, and recognized schools within the state.

The decision is expected to benefit over 18,000 government schools and 5,000 private institutions, catering to nearly 35 lakh students. The education department is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that students, including those preparing for board exams, utilize this break wisely. Several districts in various states, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, have also declared winter holidays to shield students from the harsh weather conditions. In some districts of Madhya Pradesh, the timing of school hours is also subject to change due to extreme cold.

As schools reopen on January 11, teachers are likely to engage in a thorough revision of the syllabus and ensure students are well-prepared for upcoming exams and assignments. This break is also seen as an opportunity for students to unwind and recharge, hindering the onset of burnout. Parents are advised to find the right balance between leisure and study time to guarantee their child's health and overall well-being.

The education department has ensured that any school failing to comply with these orders will face strict action. Nonetheless, the declaration of winter holidays is generally welcomed, as families can use this time to rejuvenate and look forward to the upcoming year.
