Ex-CIA Employee Indicted for Leaking Classified Israeli Plans

Updated :

A former CIA employee has been arrested and indicted for allegedly leaking highly classified documents related to Israel's planned retaliation against Iran. The documents, marked top secret, detail Israel's military preparations and potentially reveal information about the country's nuclear capabilities, contradicting previous denials.

The FBI arrested Asif W. Rahman in Cambodia and charged him with two counts of leaking classified national defense information. According to the indictment, the leak occurred on or about October 17 and involved satellite imagery from October 15-16. The documents, shared with a pro-Iranian Telegram account called "Middle East Spectator", allegedly outline Israel's plans to move munitions and the Israeli Air Force's exercises involving air-to-surface missiles. One of the documents even suggests that Israel possesses nuclear weapons.

Rahman, a former CIA employee with a top-secret security clearance, is expected to be extradited to Virginia and stand trial. The indictment marks the culmination of an FBI investigation that began in October, after the leak became public. The incident has raised concerns about the security of sensitive information and the potential consequences of such leaks for international relations.

The case highlights the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, with attendant implications for global security. The situation underscores the need for vigilance and measures to protect classified information from unauthorized disclosure, especially in light of emerging threats in the region.
