Winter Chill Grips Pakistan as Temperature Drops

Updated :

A significant drop in temperatures is expected across Pakistan, with mostly dry weather predicted for Sindh and parts of Punjab, while colder conditions and scattered rain are forecasted in the Pothohar region and its surrounding areas.

Pakistan is bracing for a cold snap, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a significant drop in temperatures across the country. The forecast indicates that dry weather will prevail in Sindh and parts of Punjab, while the Pothohar region and its surrounding areas can expect colder conditions and scattered rain. The forecast further predicts that upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir will experience further temperature drops, continued rain, and snowfall. The dense fog is expected to blanket several low-lying areas, including parts of Punjab and K-P. The Pothohar region, which includes Attock, Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, and Chakwal, is expected to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms, while Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir can expect continued cloud cover and occasional light rain and snowfall on mountain peaks. Smog is also expected to prevail in Peshawar and its surroundings, Islamabad, and Punjab. With the westerly wave prevailing over the upper parts of the country, the chances of light rain and snowfall in the high-altitude regions are high. In southern Punjab, Lahore and adjacent areas can expect rain on Sunday night and Monday, providing relief from the prevailing smog. The rain, although scattered and light, is expected to decrease smog intensity significantly. A study by climatology experts at the PMD has shown that this pattern is a seasonal one and worth expecting in this time of the year, when most of the westerlies are originating from the ocean.
